The Feudal System
The form Government that the people of the middle ages live by is called the feudal system. The Feudal system is split into different sections of power. At the top we have the Kings then the Nobles after that the thousands and thousands of Knights which leaves the people who are the worst off and the section with the most people in it (mostly in the millions) the Peasants.
Monarch
There are lots of different levels in the Feudal system but in top spot was the Monarch which is the King, Queen or Clergy. The Monarch controlled all the land except the church. The Monarch lived in a castle and Governed over all the manors in the land.
Lords
The next highest level was the lords or nobles. They were given the responsibility of the estates by the Monarch and in return for their good deeds to the kings they were given military loyalty and support. on their land the lords were given crops to grow they also got to keep some but they were mostly for the king. The lords were allowed keep some of the profit they made from selling the crops. Lastly the Lords of the manors were in charge of enforcing the laws, maintaining order in their land and keeping the peasants safe.
Knights
Under the social class of the Lords were the Knights or Vassals they were given the spot by the Monarch. Knights belonged to the certain Lords and fought for them when needed in battles and wars. The Knights wore armor made from chain mail. Knights usually used weapons such as a flails, maces, lances, shields and swords in battles.
Peasants
"The lowliest level of the medieval social classes was the serfs or the peasants. Almost 90% of the population of Medieval Europe was serfs. Serfs were regular village people that worked the land of the manor. In return for protection and a place to live serfs were required to farm the land and perform other jobs that were requested by the lord. Serfs could be likened to slaves; they were forced to work the land of the manor and could not leave with permission from the lord of the land. However, unlike slaves serfs could not be bought, sold, or traded. Serfs held various jobs throughout the manor. These jobs included craftsmen, bakers, farmers, and tax collectors."
